Darrel Colbert
Board Member

Darrel Colbert Sr. joins the Let’s Run It Back team with experience in both education and athletics.
Darrel was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. He was a gridiron prep star at West Brook High School where he was a member of the 1982 Texas 5A State Championship team. After a successful high school career, Darrel received a football scholarship to Texas Southern University. While at Texas Southern, Darrel received his Bachelor’s Degree and went on to become one of the all-time leading receivers in the school's history. He would later be inducted into the TSU Hall of Fame. After Darrel’s illustrious college football career, he would go on to sign an NFL free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1987. After playing in the NFL, Darrel made stops in the Canadian Football League and then the World Football League in 1992. After retiring from professional football, Darrel pursued his passion for teaching and coaching young men.
As an educator, he has coached and taught at the middle school and high school level for more than 10 years. Darrel is currently serving as Head Football coach and Campus Coordinator at Westbury High School in the Houston ISD. He has also coached at the college level, serving as the wide receiver’s coach at his alma mater Texas Southern University. His passion for mentoring and giving back is what moved him to join the LRIB team.
Darrel and his wife Jocie are the proud parents of three children, Darrel Jr. (QB @ SMU & LU), Jazmyne and Dakeemia.
